Blast from the Past
Two years ago, it was probably around October, we, the SPCP Chess team attended our first official Chess Tournament.
It was the Leviste Cup and it was help in the Blue Eagle Gym of The Ateneo de Manila University.
It was a two day event where we had about nine games with 25-30 mins per player.
On the ninth game, I think I was in the last board [we call it the "bodega" the loser's area XD] . I was peice down and hoping for my opponent to make a blunder, while he was at a time disadvantage.
Thinking that I had time on my side, I decided to just move my king around until my opponent's time would run out. But no.... I moved my king at the most stupid of all places. [Chess jargon (sort of
) warning] T'was a GINORMOUS BLUNDER. I moved it to where my king was at check. Then lo and behold, my opponent was given two extra minutes to his time. By that moment, I just waited for him to mate me and get things over with.
I left the board thinking "Oh well, I bet he's a senior", but then, I can't recall how I found out, but after a while I found out he was just in the seventh grade.
I went home depressed and terribly angered by remembering my idiotic blunder.
Two years later, I'm about to go into college and I haven't really thought about the game, or the person, since then.
[don't worry, There's an ACTUAL POINT to this. This part is just suspence... XD]
Currently I've been with my teammates, training with them in ADMU for the UAAP tourney this year. With the team, we have a boy in training with us---Vincent. And today, we were the last to go home.
Before we fixed our boards and left for home, he called my attention and asked me "Uhm, Claire, do you remember two years ago, when we had a tournament on the basketball court of the gym?". I said yes. He continued "Do you remember being at the last board during the last game (then said more details about the game that I cant recall)?"
It dawned on me, he was that boy who took my pride (or whatever was left of it... or assuming that I had any...).
We had a loooooong laugh and I just thought that this was worth blogging about. Hahahahahahahaha! Because, of course, I had to tell him how irritating it was for me. Hahahaha!!
Anyway. That's all. haha!
